Liam Gillick + Philippe Parreno


Born inEngland in 1964, Liam Gillick graduated with a BA in Fine Art from Goldsmiths College, University of London in 1987. Gillick has been exhibiting internationally since the beginning of the 1990s. He was short-listed for the Turner Prize in 2002 and has had solo exhibitions, amongst others, at The Whitechapel Art Gallery, London, 2002; The Museum of Modern Art, New York, 2003; Baltimore Museum of Art, USA, 2005; Palais de Tokyo, Paris, 2005 and Venice Biennale, German Pavilion, 2009. In 2009 IMMA exhibited Gillick’s installation work, Literally Based on H.Z., 2006, which was acquired for the IMMA Collection in 2007.


Born in Oran, Algeria, in 1964, Philippe Parreno lives and works in Paris. Solo exhibitions include Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, 2002; Center for Contemporary Art, Kitakyushu, 2003; Kunstverein München, Munich, 2004; Friedrich Petzel Gallery, New York, 2008. In 2009 IMMA will present an overview of Parreno’s work, an international collaboration between Kunsthalle Zürich; Centre Pompidou, Paris, and Bard College, New York. Parreno’s film work The Boy from Mars, 2003, was purchased for the IMMA Collection in 2007.
