This letterpress by American artists David McDermott and Peter McGough was created on the occasion of a retrospective of their entire photographic work at IMMA in 2008. Printed on 19th-century printing press, this edition announces the sale by auction of the possessions of playwright, poet and author Oscar Wilde. A poignant reproduction of the original, the sale was held during Wilde’s disastrous month of April 1895
Biography
Born in David McDermott was born in Hollywood, California, in 1952. Peter McGough was born in 1958in Syracuse, New York. They have exhibited widely internationally and were nominated for theGlen Dimplex Artists Award at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in 1998. Previous exhibitionsi nclude the Frankfurter Kunstverein in 1986 and the Whitney Biennial, New York, in 1987, 1991 and 1995. In 1997 the duo mounted a mid-career retrospective exhibition at the Provincial Museum voor Moderne Kunst, Oostende, Belgium. In 2008, IMMA presented An Experience of Amusing Chemistry: Photographs 1990 - 1890, a retrospective of the photographic work of McDermott & McGough
