Colourful star-like forms create ecstatic explosions of colour in this digital print by New York based artist Fred Tomaselli. Based on concepts of mapping and the idea of finding one’s place in the world, this edition was presented to coincide with an exhibition of Tomaselli’s work at IMMA in 2004
Biography
Fred Tomaselli was born in Santa Monica, California in 1956. He studied Painting and Drawing at California State University, Fullerton. Recent solo exhibitions include Carlier Gebauer, Berlin, 2005; James Cohan Gallery, New York, 2006; Aspen Art Museum, Aspen, 2009 and White Cube, London, 2009. Tomaselli’s meticulous hybrid pictures are made using a dazzling array of materials including paint, pills, insects, photo-collage, leaves and flowers, and explore ideas of Utopia and disorder using objects both real and reproduced. His works draw on such varied influences as Indian miniatures to punk music.
